Features by standard

Overview

Level, channel, monitoring, presets and records work the same for every standard. Only the standard-specific parameters change.

DAB+

Digital radio to ETSI EN 300 401

  • Full ODR-mmbTools chain: AudioEnc, PadEnc, DabMux, DabMod
  • Multiple services: HE-AACv2, AAC-LC, MP2; ensemble ID, labels, ECC
  • Live DLS text, slideshow, announcements (cluster/alarm)
  • Band III channels (5A–13F), capacity shown in CU
Dashboard view DAB+

Web dashboard

Runs in the browser, light and dark, also on a phone. Works offline, no cloud.

Windows installer

Setup without admin rights. One double-click starts server and dashboard. Close the window = transmitter off, Pluto muted.

Guided setup

In 20 languages: check device and firmware, rate PC performance, choose the operating mode, install components from the official sources.

Firmware flasher

Verifies the image, tests it in RAM first, backs up the running firmware and flashes only after confirmation.

Monitoring receiver

The Pluto's own RX input receives and decodes the signal: sync, SNR, services, text.

Expected/actual report

Every configuration is rendered and decoded. Deviations are listed line by line.

Test plans & presets

Templates for recurring tests, level ramps and channel changes.

Test records

Print-ready record with timestamps, parameters and results, e.g. for certification.

Notes and details
  • Values marked estimate are derived from benchmarks and were not measured with Muxwright. The fps figures come from OpenBenchmarking (x264/x265, preset medium, Bosphorus clip); for live 25 fps faster presets are enough, at a small quality cost at the same bit rate.
  • NVENC generations: Maxwell 1 (GTX 750 Ti) does H.264 only. Maxwell 2 (GTX 950–980 Ti) adds HEVC 8-bit and 4K but no Main10. Pascal (GTX 10xx) adds HEVC Main10 (HDR10) but no HEVC B-frames. Early GTX 1650 cards still have the older Volta NVENC. Turing (GTX 1660 / RTX 20) adds HEVC B-frames. AV1 (RTX 40/50) is not used by DVB, so it is no reason to upgrade.
  • Concurrent encode sessions on GeForce cards: currently 12 (driver 591.44 or later, December 2025), before that 8 (551.76 or later). That covers 2–3 programmes on any card; with UHD the limit is rather the throughput of the NVENC units.
  • Drivers: Maxwell and Pascal support ends with the 580 driver branch. ffmpeg builds against current nv-codec-headers require driver 610 or newer, so GTX 9xx/10xx cards need an ffmpeg built with nv-codec-headers 13.0 or older.
  • Laptops throttle under sustained load. Run them on mains power and pick the Windows power plan "High performance".

Upgrading hardware

Check first, then buy: if your PC meets the "minimum" column for what you want to transmit, you need nothing new. The biggest step is usually an NVENC graphics card for UHD/HDR10; more RAM only for UHD or several programmes.
